GALACTIC
TANK FORCE
An out-of-this-world space themed pinball game with roots in ice cream and cow butts.
This was the first pinball game I had the pleasure of working on. An out-of-this-world original idea, this game was a massive undertaking, both creatively and with the amount of content we could jam pack this game with. For this project, I filmed four actors in front of a green screen, reading off hundreds of quick lines each. That translates into about 2,500+ 5 second clips that I edited, along with completely creating the backgrounds from scratch.
On top of that, we also had the unique challenge of creating this 50s, sci-fi, campy movie aesthetic that these actors lived in and could easily give details about the world. Essentially, we made an entire movie into a pinball machine. I made the Planet Lumina in Unreal Engine and animated and modeled a lot of the assets (including dancing cows, cow milking machine, and a UFO, just to name a few) in Maya. These animations are used throughout the game to create a cohesive story.
CG Character Backgrounds and Live Action Footage
Plotnik Background
I used Maya to model Professor Plotnik’s kitchen laboratory, Photoshop to texture, Arnold to render, and After Effects to composite the footage in the scene. I also used Premiere Pro to edit and label all the live action footage.
Annoya Background
I used Maya to model Annoya’s throne, Photoshop to texture, Arnold to render, and After Effects to create the lava floor and ominous background. I also used Premiere Pro to edit and label all the live action footage.
CG Modeling and Animating the World
Ice Cream Modes
I used Unreal Engine to render and create the environments, Maya to model and animate the tank, and added effects in After Effects.
Cow Abductions
I used Unreal Engine to render and create the environments, Maya to model and animate the tank, and added effects in After Effects.
Moon to Ice Cream Centerpiece
I used Unreal Engine to render and create the environments, Maya to model and animate the tank, and added effects in After Effects.
Creating the 50s Typography and Aesthetic
Attract Mode Items
I used After Effects for most of these animations, the Ice Cream Moon was made and rendered in Maya, and the Tank from the turnaround is modeled and rendered in Maya, textured in Photoshop.
50s TV Ad
Edited this in Premiere, effects added in After Effects.
